The racket

Email was built for a different purpose

In my opinion, email was never a good way to communicate. People still depend on it anyway.

It’s all text underneath. Look at a raw message. Everything, even the images, is converted into text.
Nobody checks who’s writing. Servers can verify each other, but nothing verifies the person behind the message.
You can’t block it at the source. In direct messaging, you shut someone off like blocking a number. Email has no such switch.
Fighting spam made more of it. Every attempt so far just taught spammers a new trick.

My advice to clients: never click “unsubscribe” on email you never signed up for.
It tells the sender your address is live, and live addresses get sold to list brokers.

So why keep it at all?

Because email is how the internet checks who you are. Every login, every reset, every receipt goes there.

You need one, despite its flaws. What you don’t need is an address that belongs to someone else.
