Linking your site to your domain name

If you bought your domain name through Earthgrid Domains simply call our 24/7 domain support hotline at 1-480-624-2500 . Your will need your customer number.  This is a number that is on your domain receipt that was emailed to you when you purchased your domain name and tell them the following:

I have a domain name with you and I have a third-party website through a cloud services company.  I simply need help changing the A-Record to a different IP address and set the DNS to the parked servers. Can you help me with this?  I do not want to buy a website or any other services at this time.

They may ask you why don't you have a website with us such as 'Website Tonight' - please do not go down this discussion path. The 24/7 Support staff has no record of you buying a website through Earthgrid - they can only help you with your domain names and email or any additional services you bought through them. No explanation is needed and their job is to sell you additional services.  Simply ask them for help exactly as above.

Once they get you to the right section and they understand what you need, they will ask you - What IP address would you like your domain to point to?

Tell them 72.20.110.40

That's it.  You are done. Your website will be up within 15 minutes normally. Be sure to close and re-open your browser to test your domain name.

Note: If you bought your service though another domain registrar this language may work as well with them.

If you'd instead like to link it yourself - here is the tutorial.

This tutorial will also work if you bought your name through for Godaddy.com as we use the exact same technology for domain registration.

UPDATED INSTRUCTIONS May 2012

Your website is always located at www.earthgrid.com/ whether you are a customer, free trial, or free personal site.

Once you have chosen a subscription plan, your website may be displayed under a domain you own. This will make all pages visible under your domain name and search indexed there as well.

Step 1: File your domain name(s) under My Domain in Site Properties

  • Go to the Admin view of your site. From Control Panel option on top right choose Site Properties.
  • In My domain field list your domain name(s) both with and without www,  separated with a comma.

    Click

Step 2.  Set your domain to point to our IP address

First, Log into your domain control panel. If you have a domain with Earthgrid click here.  If on Godaddy, click on My Account. Once you are logged in you should find the 'domain' section.

Click the Launch button and you should see something similar to this:

Under the Domain Name heading find your domain and click the blue underlined area to select it.  Then you should see a screen like below.  Look for the DNS Settings and find the little 'Launch' button

Make sure that your nameservers are set to xxxx.DOMAINCONTROL.COM as above. If they are not, then you must 'Set Nameservers' to 'Default Parked Domains' - and you may have to wait up to 48 hours before proceeding.  Also when you do this, you may lose access to your email since your email is related to your nameservers.  If you have email with Godaddy or with Earthgrid Domains, then you don't need to worry about it - it automatically is set correctly.

Once you click the Launch button you should see this. Most likely the numbers will be something other than 72.20.110.40.  Whatever these numbers are, change them to 72.20.110.40.

You can do this by simply clicking on the number and it will turn into a pen icon. Type in exactly 72.20.110.40 in the box and then press the
button

Within 10-15 minutes usually your website will be visible at your domain name.

If you are unable to follow these instructions, please call us toll free 1-800-557-0212 and use the 'Technical Support' option.

Advanced Settings

If you are using the Member Login Function there is a required DNS Update to the above instructions. The member log in function will work properly for 'redirects' to new pages only when you set two DNS records: Set your Primary DNS: '@' to 72.20.110.50 and your 'www' to 72.20.110.40.  Once you've completed this your screen will look like this illustration below.

After you have done this, look down under CNAME section. If there is a 'www' listed, delete it. We do not want an alias set-up for www as it is now the primary domain host. If you are unable to do follow these instructions, Contact us and one of our support staff can set up your site with you.
